We spent 10 unforgettable days at Ratua in February — myself, my wife, and our 10-month-old baby — and I can honestly say it's one of the most special places I've ever been.

It's hard to know were to begin, but the Staff were a standout. After 10 days, these people didn't feel like resort staff anymore — they felt like family. The warmth, attentiveness and genuine care they showed us (including our little one!) was something I've never experienced at any other property. I genuinely miss them. I'm pretty sure the baby does too.

The activities on offer are plentiful and diverse. We were obviously travelling as a family, but that didn't mean we couldn't also indulge in romantic and adventurous experiences as well. The balance of relaxation and adventure was spot on. We had plenty of gentle downtime with the baby, but also the opportunity to explore. We took a day trip to Santo Island — visiting the markets, blue holes, and the breathtaking Champagne Beach. I also headed out fishing with a local guide and, despite being no expert whatsoever, casually reeled in a tuna and a barracuda. Incredible.

A note on Vanuatu, and why Ratua is different: Vanuatu itself is a beautiful destination with genuinely wonderful people. However, travelling the wider country with a young family requires a level of alertness that comes with exploring a developing nation. But Ratua's private island setting meant we got the very best of Vanuatu — the culture, the warmth, the people, through the incredible staff — but in a clean, safe and wholly relaxing environment where we could simply switch off and let the team take care of us. Our trip to Santo was exhilarating, but boy was it nice to get back to the island environment at the end of the day.

** FINAL WORD **
I don't often leave reviews, but Ratua was so good that I felt compelled to share the experience. It was a genuine 5-star experience in every sense. You need to experience it to truly understand the quality. Whatever your budget, whatever your travel style — if you're considering Ratua, just go. You won't regret it.

An unforgettable family experience, Ratua at its very best!

Our stay at Ratua Island Resort & Spa was nothing short of exceptional.

From the moment we arrived, it was clear that Ratua is not simply a resort; it is an experience shaped by care, authenticity, and extraordinary people.

As a family, we were able to enjoy so many unforgettable moments: horse riding through the island, swimming with the horses in the ocean, snorkeling in pristine waters, kayaking through calm surrounds, and then returning each day to truly outstanding meals and the best cocktails. Every detail felt thoughtful, relaxed, and perfectly balanced.

But what truly sets Ratua apart is its people.

The staff are remarkable, every single one of them. Warm, attentive, genuine, and quietly professional. Not once did anything feel forced or performative; hospitality here comes from the heart. Each person we met felt like a legend in their own right, and together they created an atmosphere that was welcoming, joyful, and deeply human.

A very special thank you must go to the manager, Roxi and Olivier, who embody everything Ratua stands for. Roxi is an exceptional leader: caring, present, and wonderfully kind. Their warmth and attentiveness made our stay feel personal and meaningful, and it was clear that the spirit of the resort flows directly from their example.

Ratua is rare. It manages to feel luxurious without being pretentious, secluded without being isolating, and refined without losing its soul.

We are deeply grateful for the memories created here, and we can say with certainty: we will be back… soon, and often.

Thank you to the entire Ratua family for an unforgettable stay. ❤️

Our stay at Ratua Island Resort was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredible, warm, attentive, and genuinely eager to make our stay special. A huge thank you to Roxy and Ollie, who made us feel so welcome; nothing was ever too much trouble.

We went on a guided tour of the island by boat, giving us the opportunity to see Ratua from the ocean and spot turtles and it was incredible. There were so many huge turtles, just metres off the beach. We were lucky enough to watch them surface while enjoying dinner on the deck in the evenings, which was also truly magical.

The island itself is pristine, immaculately clean, beautifully maintained, with stunning beaches and breathtaking sunsets each evening, with a fire on the beach. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and perfectly positioned to soak up the natural beauty.

The food deserves special mention, some of the best we’ve had. From a spectacular lobster BBQ lunch (caught fresh that morning) to every meal prepared with care and flavour, dining here was a highlight in itself.

There was so much to enjoy: kayaks and snorkelling at our doorstep, a private tour to the Malo Blue Lagoon, horse riding into the ocean for a swim, and the staff even took my son to visit the farm animals, an experience he loved.

It’s hard to put into words just how special this experience was. Ratua Island is more than a resort; it’s a place that stays with you. We will absolutely be returning.

I stayed at Ratua for a few days in May 2025 and had a wonderful experience. Staff were extremely welcoming and friendly, and Ratua felt like the most authentic experience of island life out of all the places we'd stayed at. We were able to take part in a traditional kava tasting ceremony there, where we were able to learn a lot more about Vanuatu and its culture. The cabins were nice and rustic and right on the beach, as well as separated from each other so it felt very quiet and private.

After returning home overseas, I realised I'd left something behind at the resort and the staff were kind enough to help me look for it and find it. It was difficult to get anything posted from Santo, but the owner Ben went and above and beyond to get my lost item back to me.

Thank you for the wonderful experience 🙂
