Wedding Butterfly Releases

Butterflies can be released from individual envelopes, allowing guests or selected family members to take part, or from a release box for a more dramatic shared moment.

Some couples release butterflies after the ceremony, some use them to honour loved ones who cannot be there, and others include them as part of a romantic photo sequence. However they are used, the moment is always personal, delicate and memorable.

Booking and weather information

Butterfly releases are seasonal and weather dependent. Releases require suitable conditions and temperatures above 20°C at the release location.

Please allow at least four weeks notice where possible, especially during busy wedding periods. If your wedding is urgent, remote, in WA or NT, on a Sunday, or outside normal release conditions, please contact Butterfly Adventures before ordering.

Wedding photoshoots and butterfly handling (Sydney & Melbourne)

For couples and photographers who would love close-up butterfly images, Butterfly Adventures now offers guided butterfly handling for selected wedding photoshoots. A trained handler can attend the shoot, bring the butterflies, manage safe handling, advise on timing and placement, and work gently with the photographer to help create beautiful natural images. This is ideal for bridal portraits, editorial-style wedding shoots, intimate ceremonies, styled shoots, or couples who want the magic of butterflies without the pressure of managing live butterflies themselves. Where weather or temperature is not suitable for release, butterflies may still be used carefully for photography and then returned with the handler.

Ethically bred butterflies

Butterfly Adventures has been breeding and supplying butterflies since 2003. Our butterflies are hand-raised with care and are not wild-caught.

We choose species that are suitable for the area, season and release conditions, giving the butterflies the best chance of flying well and continuing their life outdoors.

Butterfly welfare is at the heart of what we do. We want every release to be beautiful for the couple, memorable for the guests, and responsible for the butterflies.
